DEFINITION AND SCIENCE

What it means
in GenOS.

IN ONE SENTENCE

Durable mission ownership, completion checks, dormancy, wake-up and guarded regeneration across process restarts.

BIOLOGICAL / SCIENTIFIC BASIS

Distributed ownership and durable state permit continuation after process loss, but recovery must arbitrate competing owners and avoid duplicate effects.

GENOS TRANSLATION

Close against the contract → Reserve ownership → Resume or regenerate

MATHEMATICAL / LOGICAL MODEL

For mission m, at most one valid lease owner may launch successor s at time t. Resume requires lease(m,t)=valid, completion contract unsatisfied and wake condition true.

Explore the mechanism: Mission continuity

A qualitative teaching model of this concept. It does not run GenOS or validate its implementation.

PROCESS AND USE

How it works
at a glance.

01

Close against the contract

The homeostasis gate checks declared invariants and required evidence. Closure requires a transition receipt bound to the active contract, latest state and current execution-evidence epoch. Completed workers cannot make an unsatisfied mission successful.

02

Reserve ownership

A mission identity and resource ownership record arbitrate wake-up and successor launch; a losing or stale process is refused.

03

Resume or regenerate

Restore the frozen mission payload after a valid wake condition. Regeneration launches a child worker only after topology and authority checks.

RUNTIME IMPLEMENTATION

What is connected,
and how far.

The continuation loop is bounded and idempotent by mission and deviation. A crash during launching requires controlled recovery, not blind replay. Regeneration has separate service paths, and distributed multi-instance operation is not qualified.

IMPLEMENTATION DETAIL

Completion, evidence collection, bounded continuation, dormancy and succession have connected paths; SQLite WAL authority was tested across two processes, not a multi-instance deployment.

FAILURE MODES

Launching a duplicate successor after a crash. · Treating worker completion as mission evidence. · Rebuilding a resumed prompt from mutable current_task instead of the frozen mission.

Distributed snapshots: determining global states of distributed systems

Describes a snapshot algorithm under explicit assumptions; it does not prove a GenOS snapshot covers external effects.

EVIDENCE AND LIMITS

A live runtime is checked before replacement
