A bounded suspended state that preserves continuity until an explicit resume condition is met.
Cryptobiosis & dormancy
in GenOS.
A bounded suspended state that preserves continuity until an explicit resume condition is met.
What it means
in GenOS.
Cryptobiosis is a biological state with greatly reduced detectable metabolism during stress. The software analogy is explicit dormancy with preserved state and a guarded wake condition, not suspended life.
Some organisms survive stress in a low-activity state. GenOS borrows dormancy and guarded resumption for persisted software state, not latent life.
A bounded suspended state that preserves continuity until an explicit resume condition is met.
State transition active→dormant requires stress≥τ and a durable checkpoint. dormant→active requires wake predicate W(state, event)=true and valid ownership.

A qualitative teaching model of this concept. It does not run GenOS or validate its implementation.
The modeled transition may proceed. Change the assumption and move through the stages to inspect the decision path.
How it works
at a glance.
Detect hostile conditions
A bounded suspended state that preserves continuity until an explicit resume condition is met.
Enter dormant state
State transition active→dormant requires stress≥τ and a durable checkpoint. dormant→active requires wake predicate W(state, event)=true and valid ownership.
Resume after validated wake
Resume after validated wake. Cryptobiosis is a biological state with greatly reduced detectable metabolism during stress. The software analogy is explicit dormancy with preserved state and a guarded wake condition, not suspended life.

The linked, versioned GenOS source defines this concept's supported operations and limits. The status axes describe the implementation and evidence recorded for this entry; they do not establish general mission success, scientific equivalence or behavior beyond that scope.
Bounded dormancy/spore and recovery services exist with tests; they do not model biological cryptobiosis.
Failure modes have not yet been separately cataloged for this entry; follow the source and evidence links before relying on the mechanism.
