Example
A worker finishes a known subtask: a typed signal or structured handoff may suffice. If agents disagree on a term's meaning, a short verbal exchange may be needed. A sensitive decision may go to a person.
Signals and channels that let agents coordinate through bounded, typed communication patterns.
Before sending anything, policy considers necessity, recipients, encoding and cost. It can choose silence. Otherwise it selects a channel suited to the information and the required evidence of reception.
| Level | Channel | Use |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | Silence | No new information or action needed |
| 1 | Stigmergy | Leave a trace in shared state |
| 2 | Zero-text signal | Send a typed event to a receptor |
| 3 | Direct structured | Send a contract or fingerprint |
| 4 | Compiled dialect | Use an agreed symbol |
| 5 | Micro-utterance | One verbal turn, capped at 200 tokens |
| 6 | Bounded dialogue | Up to eight turns and 2,000 tokens |
| 7 | Human | Escalate a decision that needs a person |

Technical delivery proves neither understanding nor correct execution. Acknowledgment can progress from transport through meaning, action, verification and, where required, human confirmation.
GenOS documents overall integration as partial: not every mission checkpoint is wired in production, and real token use is not automatically measured for every cycle.
Signals and channels that let agents coordinate through bounded, typed communication patterns.
Communication systems depend on channel capacity, timing and noise. GenOS uses typed signals and bounded channels; the ecology metaphor does not imply biological communication.

A message m=(type, source, target, payload, time) is deliverable only if channel policy P(m)=allow. Measure delivery rate as acknowledged/eligible messages over a stated window.
A qualitative teaching model of this concept. It does not run GenOS or validate its implementation.
The modeled transition may proceed. Change the assumption and move through the stages to inspect the decision path.

The linked, versioned GenOS source defines this concept's supported operations and limits. The status axes describe the implementation and evidence recorded for this entry; they do not establish general mission success, scientific equivalence or behavior beyond that scope.
Typed signals, persisted deliveries and bounded receiver paths are connected; delivery is at least once and not every receiver is registered at startup.
Failure modes have not yet been separately cataloged for this entry; follow the source and evidence links before relying on the mechanism.

Defines a partial order of events and logical clocks. A published run without event timestamps cannot be reconstructed into a causal timeline from this result alone.
